Landsat image composites and forest cover monitoring results --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Data format Data format : GeoTiff, 8-bit integer Tile dimensions (pixels): 5000 X; 5000 Y Projection : Lambert Azimuthal Equal Area Earth Ellipsoid : Sphere, rad 6370997 m Pixel size (m) : 60 X ; 60 Y --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Landsat data composites Layer 1: Landsat band 5 (SWIR) normalized and scaled Layer 2: Landsat band 4 (NIR) normalized and scaled Layer 3: Landsat band 3 (Red) normalized and scaled --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Forest monitoring results map legend Value Class 1 Non-forest (2000, 2005) 2 Forest (2000, 2005) 3 Forest loss 2000-2005 4 Forest gain 2000-2005 (preliminary results) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The dataset consists of Landsat image composites for circa year 2000 (created using data from 1999 to 2002) and circa 2005 (created using data from 2003 to 2005). Only 3 image bands for each time interval are included in the on-line dataset. Other spectral bands, image date layers and additional annual metrics used for data analysis are available on request. The Landsat-based classification results showing forest, non-forest classes for year 2000 and forest cover change from 2000 to 2005 are available for cross-validation and analysis. Our to-date validation result illustrates that regional-scale Landsat monitoring results are comparable with heritage individual image supervised characterizations. However, note that forest cover gain results were not validated, could have high uncertainty, and should be considered preliminary. Our current dataset includes only data for European Russia from 2000 to 2005. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This data is a part of Boreal Forest Monitoring Project provided by Geographic Information Science Center of Excellence (GIScCE) 1021 Medary Ave., Wecota Hall Box 506B, Brookings, SD 57007.
